Naomi Watts’ money mattress panic
Written by Jess on February 20, 2009

Naomi Watts has confessed the credit crunch has got her in such a panic she wants to stuff all her money under the mattress.
The 40-year-old actress told The Independent even movie stars are worried by the economic crisis.

Naomi – who stars in new film The International – said: “We’re all feeling incredibly scared and vulnerable about what’s going on in the banks. It just goes to show that these empires, these corporations have so much influence over us – they talk us into doing things, living beyond our means and certainly in this film, the banks are able to control everything.

“We’re all very vulnerable. I’ve called my accountant many times in fits of panic. You feel like, ‘let me get all my cash out now’. It feels like it’s time to hide the money under the mattress. These are very scary times.”

The actress revealed becoming a mother to 18-month-old Alexander and two-month-old Samuel – her sons with partner Liev Schreiber – has changed the roles she chooses.

She said: “There’s something about becoming a parent that means I have to let go of strict ideals. I took the part (in The International) because it was the kind of work that I wouldn’t have to take home with me.

“Normally I’m someone who is so focused on my work that there’s nothing else that can distract me. This time around it was very different. When you’re breastfeeding, it feels like it takes away half of your brainpower. I was struggling just to remember my dialogue.
“It’s not like your taste suddenly changes because you’re a mother, but I would love to do a movie that would impress my kids.”
