Watts shining bright in 2013

Having spent years in the shadow of her great friend Nicole Kidman, Sydney-raised Naomi Watts has finally hit her stride, her name being feted in the 2013 awards season, garnering nominations for SAG, Golden Globe and AACTA gongs, and on Friday an Oscar nomination for her role in The Impossible, playing a mother in search of her family following the 2004 Asian tsunami.

Gracing the current cover of Vogue Australia and with more than 60 cinematic roles under her belt, Watts was honoured at last weekend’s Palm Springs Film Festival, where she told the audience having her sons Sasha and Kai to fellow actor Liev Schreiber, had ”breathed life into me”.

”People ask me all the time, ‘is it scary getting older?’ I say ‘why, because I feel my face sliding closer and closer to my navel?’ But I feel truly blessed by the extraordinary roles I have played so far and maybe it’s age that has given me this blessing … to play women who have truly lived,” Watts said.

Naomi is continuing her successful partnership with her The Impossible director J.A. Bayona, and this time the two-some are translating their talents into commercial making! Bayona is directing Naomi in a Christmas advert for Spanish department store El Corte Ingles, and they were seen filming it in Madrid a few days ago. I wonder how long this has been in the works, and whether it is something that has just come up recently due to The Impossible‘s impressive success in Spain.

A video of the making of the advert has been posted on YouTube – unfortunately it seems to be missing the start and end, but it’s great none-the-less, and we hear Naomi talk about the success of the film. WAtch it further down this post. Here is a translation of the description used for the video:

Naomi appeared on the Australian Today Show earlier today, from their studios in New York City. She talked about Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign, Diana, her family, Woody Allen, and David Lynch/Mulholland Drive. It’s a good 8 minute interview so have a watch!

Naomi attended a press conference for Astalift, the cosmetics brand she is the current face of, in Cannes on Friday, and closerMag.fr have posted an interview with her from it, as well as a photo.
