We <3 Naomi!

"Not since I saw Meryl Streep’s performance in Sophie’s Choice have I been so moved by an actress’s performance. It also reminded me of Sally Field’s Norma Rae as well. Such strength and absolute vulnerability in the same performance. A mother who is determined to teach her child what it means to be a good person even when facing her own mortality. You showed every side of Maria’s story."

Recent public appearances photo catch-up

Jun 9th 2013 • by Jess • No Comments • Charity, Diana, Event, Gallery Updates, Style, Sunlight Jr.

Hello Naomi fans! Sorry for the shortage of updates here recently – real life has become busy, and as wonderful as Naomi is, she’s had to take a back seat for a while. This may continue for a while, but be sure I will update as often as I can.

I have now caught up with adding photos from all the events Naomi has attended in the past couple of months. Read through this post for a rundown of those appearances…

Naomi and Liev looked cool and casual at a benefit event for Stuart House, a program to support sexually abused children:

• John Varvatos 10th Annual Stuart House Benefit x4

Naomi mingled with fellow Aussie actress Abbie Cornish and a variety of stylists at THR’s Stylists Luncheon. Naomi’s stylist, Jeanann Williams, dressed her in a blue and white floral print dress by Erdem, with nude Jimmy Choo ‘Anouk’ pumps and a nude Valentino ‘Rockstud’ clutch. Read more about the Stylists issue here.

• The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo’s Stylists Luncheon x17

Naomi, Matt Dillon and director Laurie Collyer premiered their new movie Sunlight Jr. at the Tribeca Film Festival. Naomi wore a patterned Alexander McQueen dress with Monique Péan earrings. More on this premiere and movie coming soon!

• Tribeca Film Festival – “Sunlight Jr.” Premiere x72

Naomi made the Children’s Museum of Art Spring Benefit a family affair, taking her kids, sister-in-law and niece to the event in New York City! See the cute family photos below!

• Children’s Museum of Art Spring Benefit 2013 – ‘Picture This’ x4

Diana was screened privately at the recent Cannes Film Festival to attract buyers, and Naomi was in town to help promote the movie. She attended a gala event hosted by Swiss watch company IWC Schaffhausen, and looked so beautiful in a black floral tea-length dress by Dolce & Gabbana, with earrings from Aurélie Bidermann. I love this look on her! More on Diana coming soon.

• Cannes Film Festival – ‘For The Love Of Cinema’ Gala x49

Naomi sported a Burberry top and skirt with Proenza Schouler heels for last weeks Up2U’s Inaugural Gala in New York City. Naomi posed with Sienna Miller on the red carpet. Up2Us is an organisation aiming to tackle the problems facing youth today through an increased involvement in sport. Vivek Oberoi talks about Naomi Watts’ letter

Jan 18th 2013 • by Jess • No Comments • Charity, Other, Personal, The Impossible, Videos

A few weeks ago I posted an article about Naomi thanking Vivek Oberoi for his work with families affected by the 2004 tsunami, and he has now responded to Naomi’s letter as such:

Vivek Oberoi thanks Hollywood actress Naomi Watts for her praise and appreciation for him and also talks about her film “The Impossible” which will release in India on January 4, 2013.

Vivek Oberoi, I salute you: Naomi Watts

Vivek Oberoi, I salute you: Naomi Watts

Hollywood actress Naomi Watts is “touched” by Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi’s work for the rehabilitation of the tsunami-hit families in Tamil Nadu. She has even written a letter to him, appreciating his work.

In 2004, Vivek had adopted a Tamil Nadu village named Thevanapattinam, and worked towards rehabililating the affected families.

“Words really fail to express how touched I am to see the work you have done for the rehabilitation of the tsunami-hit families in Thevanapattinam, Tamil Nadu. It takes a lot of courage and immense devotion to be able to take up such a responsibility on one’s shoulders,” Watts wrote in the letter.

The actress, who plays the role of tsunami survivor in “The Impossible”, says it is hard for her to imagine the pain that the families had gone through during the 2004 calamity.

Naomi Watts: I’m definitely wearing a wig in Diana film

Naomi Watts: I’m definitely wearing a wig in Diana film

WHAT do wigs and Naomi Watts have in common?

Quite a lot, actually.

In Australia for Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign, which encourages women to donate their hair to be made into wigs for cancer sufferers, the actress also spilled the beans on her Princess of Wales hairdo in the highly anticipated film Diana.

“I’m definitely wearing a wig” she told news.com.au yesterday

“I actually had four different wigs, and even though the film only covers the last two years of her life she did change her colour quite a bit and even the length and style.

“Real hair wigs are very expensive, it takes a lot to get all the under work right and then you have to set the hair in such a way so that your head is as small as possible.”

Real hair wigs actually cost thousands of dollars and are very difficult to come by, which is why Naomi agreed to sign on for the Beautiful Lengths campaign.

“It just instantly sounded like such a good thing to be part of” she said.

I was just browsing YouTube for Naomi videos, and came across this one I hadn’t seen before. It’s an appeal video of Naomi for R U OK, a charity campaign for suicide prevention. Naomi became an ambassador for them in 2010, and you can view her video for the cause from that year here.

Actress Naomi Watts says if you’re not ok, to call 1800 RUOKDAY (7865 329) to connect with 5 Australian help lines: Lifeline, Suicide Call Back Service, Kids helpline, SANE Australia and beyondblue.

UNAIDS launches “Believe it. Do it.” action campaign to help end new HIV infections among children by 2015

May 10th 2012 • by Jess • No Comments • Charity, Videos

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) today launched a new campaign, “Believe it. Do it.”, aimed at bringing attention and action to the global goal of ending new HIV infections among children by 2015 and ensuring mothers living with HIV remain healthy.

Each year, about 390 000 children become newly infected with HIV and as many as 42 000 women living with HIV die from complications relating to HIV and pregnancy.

In 2011, world leaders at the United Nations High Level Meeting on AIDS committed to ending new HIV infections among children by 2015 and saving mothers’ lives. A bold new global plan was adopted and action is underway.

“We have an amazing opportunity to change the world,” said Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS. “We have the commitment of world leaders but the clock is ticking and we cannot get from 390 000 to zero without you.”

UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassadors Naomi Watts and Annie Lennox are among the personalities adding their voices and commitment to “Believe it. Do it.” In addition, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Whoopi Goldberg joined Blair Underwood, Denis O’Hare, Alexandra Wentworth, George Stephanopoulos and Sujean Rim to create a public service announcement for the campaign with the message “I believe children everywhere can be born free from HIV—Believe it. Do it.”

Under the premise that ‘every day is Mother’s Day!’ UNAIDS also teamed up with artist Sujean Rim to create a series of e-cards celebrating families. Through public service announcements, an interactive web site and social media outreach, the campaign asks the public to take three simple actions:

Get the facts about ending new HIV infections among children
Send a message about the issue and the actions people can all take
Support a mother through one of the great organizations working with families

The campaign will be featured ahead of Mother’s Day on 11 May on the American morning television show Good Morning America and the 30-second public service announcement will appear on CNN International, CNN Domestic (U.S. market) as well as other media outlets.
