“I like fashion, but I’m not a slave to it,” Naomi says of the glamorous side of her job, adding that she hates “fashion perfection. To me, there is nothing more boring. I love a mish-mash.” She describes her style as “eclectic”, and this can be seen in the photos showcasing her style over the years below. Sometimes she likes trying something different, other times she just likes to look elegant. Being a busy mum, she admits she now sometimes has less time for fashion and is less worried about what she is wearing.
True to her statement about liking a variety of styles and fashion, Naomi has worn a variety of designers for her red carpet events. However, she has stated that her favourite/most-worn designers include friend Stella McCartney, Gucci, Roland Mouret (“for great red-carpet dresses,” she says), Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, and Zac Posen. “I like Marc Jacobs and sometimes a nice sharp Gucci suit,” she says. Marchesa is also a new favourite of Naomi’s – she’s attended a couple of events for the brand as well as posing with its designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig at events, and has favoured dresses by the label for a few of her recent big red carpet appearances.
Calvin Klein appears to be a real favourite, as Naomi has attended several of his Fashion Week Runway shows and raves about why she likes his designs: “I do wear a lot of his [Calvin Klein] clothes. I like the simplicity, they always feel modern but there’s a classical feel to them. For me, they always feel wearable. There’s always a good modern edge. And for me, somebody’s who’s small and [has] small features, narrow shoulders, I can’t wear fussy, over the top clothing, but I still want an edge. I still want to have something going on and he’s able to do that: make the clothes wearable and there’s always something very modern about them.”
As for her casual, off-duty style, Naomi keeps it practical. For her day-to-day activities she carries “gigantic handbags – they have to be kind of utilitarian,” and she sticks to her favourite pair of boots for life in New York, as they are comfy for 10 block walks while running errands and doing the school run. Jeans are a must for her every-day life, and she favors the J Brand and James brands. Her every-day essentials are jeans and T-shirts, sunglasses, and a Juicy jacket. She has been spotted in sunglasses by Chloe, Tom Ford, Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Miu Miu, Prada and Blinde.
Naomi prefers flat shoes and says she “has trouble in any heel”, although jokes that she “could use an extra foot” in height! She prefers shoes to bags. Her favourite accessory is a “gold necklace with a round pendant. The word ‘Mama’ is repeated over and over again in a pattern, forming a continuous circle. It was a present from my partner Liev. I love it.”
Make-up wise, Naomi usually keeps it fairly natural, and sometimes even goes practically make-up free. Soft and immaculate is the best way to characterise Naomi’s make-up looks … although on occassion she does go for the full-on glam look with heavy make-up and dramatic red lips! These dramatic make-up looks are often accompanied by a very classic old Hollywood hairstyle of either loose side-parted waves or a 1930′s style updo. Naomi usually wears her hair down, either styled sleek and straight, or with a few waves or curls, but also throws in a few loose, messy or neat up-do’s from time to time. She’s never been anything but blonde on the red carpet.
